How Do I Seat Them?

If there is one thing that many brides get a headache over, it is the guest list. The guest list is a vital tool. The number of guests will determine the number of covers for the food, number of flower arrangements. It also determines the number of tables to be used, and the shape as well, in some cases.

Once you have determined the final number, you now have to decide where to seat everyone. The target is to give each guest the proper recognition as well as to place them where they will have great company while at your event. You want everyone to have a great time at your wedding party, and where they sit can be a key to that.

Since you are reading this, I know that you are tech savvy. You may wish to check out some software for making seating arrangements. They are great tools for weddings and any other event you will plan to host in the future.

The first thing you need to do is make a list of all your guests. You may want to do this on a computer, even without any special software, so that it is easier to make corrections and adjustments. Include everybody who will be at your wedding including you and your groom.

Sort out your guests according to whom they are affiliated. Make a column for guests of the bride and another for the guests of the groom. You can have a list of mutual friends if you can’t decide on whose side to place some of them. List them in alphabetical order by their last names. This will make it easy for you to note family members and seat them together. It will also make it easy to count how many pairs you have.

Next, geta copy of the floor plan and check with your caterer what the final table arrangements will be. Most couples have a rectangular or U-shaped table for the bridal party. Usually the U-shape is used if you want to seat your bridesmaids and groomsmen with you. If not, they can be seated with the other guests at a special table for them.

The rest of the guests are usually seated at round tables scattered throughout the room. It is usual to seat ten people to a table. It keeps the number even and ensures everyone has someone to talk with. This also makes it easy for your caterer to track the actual number of covers they served.

If you choose to have an open or free seating arrangement, the only table you need to worry about is the bridal table. This is an arrangement preferred by couples with a very laid back guest list. It is great for weddings that are more intimate where most of the group knows each other.

It creates a very relaxed atmosphere where everyone feels free to mingle and seat with they people they find most interesting. Truly, very few people mind that you don’t have a seating plan just as long as you make sure to recognize their presence and spend some time with them and give them great food.
