Sometimes simplicity makes for an even more beautiful wedding than having lots of fancy stuff. Anyone can have this kind of wedding, an advantage being that it really doesn’t cost that much to have a simple wedding. Think about it. What do you really need to get married?
- The bride - The lady must first say yes to getting married. She must want to get married or there will be no wedding.
- The groom - Without a groom, who would the bride marry? It takes two to make a marriage. Traditionally he proposes so most assume that he definitely wants this union of souls.
- The license - No matter where you get married, you must comply with the requirements. Otherwise, it will just be a sham and that is no way to start a lifetime together.
- The officiant - You’ll need someone to perform the ceremony. You can choose who will unite the two of you. You can have your parish priest, minister, pastor, rabbi or equivalent religious official can perform the ceremony. If you would rather have a civil ceremony, a judge or justice of the peace normally officiates.
- Two witnesses - the witnesses confirm that the wedding took place. This can be any two adults. You can invite two people who are special to you to take on the role but if you are planning to keep it secret, there are always people at the courthouse or church who can fulfill these roles. It is usually nicer to have at least one person close to you present to actually see you get married.
- The wedding outfit - there is actually no hard and fast rule about what you should wear to your wedding. You can get married in the dress you like best in your cabinet. Especially if you are getting married in the courthouse or in Las Vegas, nobody will mind if you don’t wear a white gown with all the flounces.
- The rings - groom’s this is something that ideally you should take care of preparing before the wedding. If this is a whirlwind romance you can still find ready made rings at most jewelry stores that you can simply have resized to fit each of you perfectly.
- A wedding bouquet - some people may argue that you can do without this but every girl wants to have something special and feminine at the same time. Flowers can provide that romantic feeling that getting married in the courthouse might lack.
That takes care of the ceremony. It can be that simple and won’t be less meaningful or special even if you don’t have a train or cascading veil. Now let’s talk about the reception - assuming you plan to have one.
Keep in mind that a reception is simply a party to let your family and friends know that you have formalized your union. It allows you to celebrate and share your happiness. Again, you can have an utterly simple wedding reception and still find it perfect. You just need the following:
- A venue that is clean. There’s going to be food so you want the place to be spotless. This can be anywhere - your home, your backyard, or a function room. You might even want to have it at a restaurant.
- Tables and chairs - you’ll need somewhere for people to sit and eat. You don’t even have to rent any if you hold your party in a restaurant. On the other hand you might actually have enough furniture at home. You might even want to just borrow some tables and chairs from your friends, family and neighbors. If you can cover them with niceand pristine table cloths, that would be great.
- Food - what’s a party without food? You can simply order take out if you don’t want to cook. It is rather hard to prepare all the dishes when you may be pressed for time. If you are in a restaurant, this is absolutely not a problem.
- Wedding Cake - a wedding cake is something that most couples look forward to. You don’t need a multitiered elaborate confection. You can actually have a simple but delicious single layer cake with white icing. Top it with a simple bride and groom topper or other wedding topper and you’re all set.
