Put Your Relationship to the Test

There have been so many reality TV programs that have featured couples who are either seriously dating or have actually gotten engaged. Some, like the I Do Diaries of Lifetime TV, focus on their preparing to actually say I do. Others like For Love or Money focus on the chance of finding true love (or so it seems) and figuring out if it is worth losing a million bucks over.
Some couples put themselves in major trouble by joining shows like temptation island. This is truly one show where the individuals say, “Thank God we weren’t married yet”. This is one show that reinforces our fears of becoming a statistic.
Still, there are very special shows like the Amazing Race that may inspire you and may just fit the bill for getting to know your fiance even better, just to be sure that you really want to go through with getting married. “Why this show?”, you ask? The answer: because it calls for an amazing relationship to get through it and come out stil together and better people.
The race is not an easy task. It calls for the pairs to travel the world with nothing but what’s in their backpack and what they are given. They are faced with various tasks and challenges that they need to accomplish in order to move onward. Many are unfamiliar, some are just plain hard. There are times when all one partner can do is be there at the sidelines giving encouragement. Sounds familiar? Isn’t that exactly what marriage is?
There is also the factor of quitting. The pairs can give up at anytime. It isn’t really about who finished first (when it comes to marriage anyway) it’s about making it through. It’s about being steadfast and helping each other.
Take note also of how you treat each other. Do you swear at each other? Do you yell and scream? This will pretty much be the way you are too when you encounter problems in your marriage as inevitably there are. After all, it is a rare marriage that has an absolutely smooth road. You usually encounter a bump or two and maybe a few pot holes along the way.
Now, you don’t need to sign up for the next available reality TV show but you can check around if there are any local activities that you can participate in together. Keep your eyes open for games or events that call for both of you to try some new skills or to truly work together to win. A simple scavenger hunt may be what you need.
Keep your eyes peeled for activities that you will both enjoy. You don’t need to sabotage each other by choosing something one of you will truly dislike. This is not the Simple Life of Paris Hilton (that really is extreme).
The best activity to pick is one where you both want to win, you’ll both have fun and lastly, you’ll be totally working together. Who knows, you may even win a million bucks to add to your wedding.
